Mobile veterinary cardiology referral services to local veterinary practices

Seeing cardiology patients at first opinion practice has several advantages. The patients are receiving treatment in a familiar environment, which means increased comfort for both pets and clients as there is no need to travel to distant referral hospitals. This is sometimes especially difficult for pets who have increased anxiety when traveling in the car or suffer from motion sickness. There is also on-going support for clients and patients, including additional image analysis for on-going cases, as well as continuity for clients as they are dealing with the same staff members who already gained their trust.

Cardiology “bundle”

The cardiology referral bundle includes full echocardiography (cardiac ultrasound), 6 lead ECG recording, blood pressure measurement when possible and a full consultation with the client where Rajka discusses findings, treatment options and further care requirements.

Rajka is carrying her own equipment into the practice but she will need a quiet darkened room for enhancing image visibility, an assistant and a power supply.

Sometimes she will recommend further clinical investigation that may include chest x-rays, taking a blood sample, ambulatory ECG (Holter monitoring), or referral for advanced tomographic imaging.
